We take a look at a classic UK childrens TV show, the beautifully drawn ‘The Animals of Farthing Wood’. Like a lot of early 90s shows, The Animals of Farthing Wood is based around the premise that human beings are destroying the environment. Unlike other shows, it doesn’t beat you over the head with its environmental message, it actually shows respect for its viewers.

The Animals of Farthing Woods consists of Mr. Rabbit, Badger, Owl, Weasel, Toad, Adder and a whole gang of furry creatures embarking on a quest to find a new home; after Farthing Woods becomes inhabitable. The journey is full of danger and peril, but the animals of Farthing Wood trust in their leader (and fan favourite) Fox to guide them on their quest for a new home.

In the 1940s, we discover Port Niranda and the Round The Twist lighthouse are key strategic outposts for the WWII war effort.

Young Nell is revealed to be a sexual predator, who can’t avoid making out with Pete. This leads to one of the soldiers becoming distracted, missing  an enemy vessel; causing the rise of a new super facist dictatorship in Australia.

How do Pete and Linda stop Australia from falling into the hands of super facists? And how good of a kisser is Nell?

What happens in this weeks episode of Captain Planet:
In this episode of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Dr. Blight builds a Global Warming generator that runs on coal, wood and oil to generate toxic CO2 gas. Dr. Blights plan is to erect a forcefield dome around Hope Island; burn fossil fuel, pump the exhaust into the dome and then deliver her final blow – a carefully wrapped present for Gaia & the Planeteers.

We have multiple questions:
1. Why not just kill the planeteers with Carbon Monoxide poisoning?
2. Why not just set up a mobile power supply; to keep the forcefield up forever (they can’t leave)?
3. Where did Dr. Blight get that awesome captains hat and why does it suit her so well?

In this episode of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Wheeler continues his journey forward through time; seeking out the remaining Planeteers for the sole purpose of being lectured and made to feel bad for rejecting his calling. Some could draw parallels between this story and Oedipus’s rejection of his fate; but not us, we just see Gaia (a God who let the world get destroyed because she was sleeping) giving Wheeler an extra hard time about not wanting to be a Planeteer. Lighten up Gaia geez!

Also this episode Ma Ti has grown up into a bum and that is hilarious beyond all measure to Anthony.

In this episode of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Dr. Blight and Hoggish Greedly build a hot tub time machine to travel back in time to the 1950s. Where men were men, Women were domesticated servants and environmental pollution laws didn’t exist.

The planeteers try to stop them and in the conflict; Wheeler & Dr. Blight become trapped in a radioactive cave in. With Captain Planet unable to break through the ice; the only mode of escape for Wheeler is through the time portal. Dr. Blight, like Eden’s serpent, makes Wheeler an offer to good to refuse. She will send Wheeler back to the moment when he first accepted his Planeteer ring, so he can stop his past self….saving his life but potentially dooming Earth’s future.

Pete Twist, as a dog, discovers he likes this side of himself and that he may be able to find true love as a dog. Coming out to his father (Tony Twist), he is rejected by his father for being different, before finally, at the end of the episode accepts his son (no matter who he loves). If this sounds like an analogy for growing up as a gay teenager, then kudos for you for picking up on what Anthony has been insisting since S03E10…that Pete Twist is actually gay.

Basically there are too many people on the planet, so we need to kill a whole bunch of them to reverse its detrimental effects (or something like that).Wheeler, the greedy american capitalist, doesn’t want accept this fact and decides to cool his hot head with a bit of wind surfing. But disaster strikes and a rogue wave wipes him out, washing him up on an island full of tiny mice people.

This tiny overpopulated mice island is ruled by a fascist dictator, who has turned the island paradise into a dystopian hellscape. Now the evil mouse leader has his eyes & his army set on the paradise of ‘Hope Island’ (AKA Gaia’s Home).
